4 August 2017|Announcement

Alicia Bárcena, the regional organization’s Executive Secretary, will give a press conference on Thursday, August 10, at 11 a.m. in Santiago, Chile.

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will launch its annual report Foreign Direct Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2017 on Thursday, August 10, at 11 a.m. at the United Nations regional body’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

At a press conference, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary, Alicia Bárcena, will present the main conclusions of the study, which analyzes the global and regional evolution of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows. The press conference will be transmitted live on the Internet via the organization’s website (://www.cepal.org/en/eclac-live-2).

The report’s first chapter offers a full overview of FDI in the region: the amounts received by each country in 2016 are specified and a regional projection for 2017 is made. It also describes the sectors that show more or less dynamism and the situation of Latin American transnational companies, which are known as “translatinas.”

The second chapter analyzes the recent changes observed on a global level in the automotive industry, which is considered a pillar of the global economy and driver of technological progress. Aspects such as relocation and business models and their impact on the technological revolution are examined. Meanwhile, the third chapter is specifically dedicated to the Mexican automotive industry, described as a “success case under pressure.”

Media outlets are invited to attend this report’s launch, which will take place at ECLAC’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Sala Celso Furtado). Journalists must have their media credentials or ID documents with them to gain access to the premises.
